A/N Okay, so its been a month since I've updated this story, alots happened, but life goes on and in exciting news my muse paid me a visit this weekend and allowed me to write some. So I hope people still like this story, and I hope it still flows, and hopefully my muse sticks around for a while. :) Also thanks for all the kind words and thank you to those who have listened to my ramblings over the last month or so, and helped me through this... you know who you are. ;)
After saying goodbye to her parents and wishing them a safe trip home, Arizona quickly makes her way back to Callie’s apartment to shower and throw a few things in a satchel bag, for Callie’s stay at the hospital. She throws the bag over her shoulder and heads back to the hospital.
She stops at the cafeteria on her way to Callie’s room and picks up some food and coffee for Callie’s parents. She’s unsure if they’ve eaten in the few hours since she’d left, but thought it would be a kind gesture.
She starts to make her way down the corridor towards the intensive care unit when Cristina walks up beside her. “Is it true?” Cristina asks stepping into pace with Arizona.
“Is what true?” Arizona asks slowing down to a stop and looking at Cristina confused.
“Hospital grape vine tells me that your mother has bigger balls then Mark Sloan. Is it true that she took on Mrs T by herself?” Cristina asks grinning.
“She didn’t take on Mrs Torres. She just talked to her, helped her to see things differently… from a mothers point of view.” Arizona explains.
“Uh huh… well she’s a legend around the hospital at the moment. Rumor also has it that Mrs T was ranting about wanting to take Callie home to Florida to recover, and your mother changed her mind.” Cristina tells her. “Gotta go. Tell Callie I’ll be by later.” Cristina yells as she turns the corner.
Arizona shakes her head and starts walking again, she smiles at the nurses as she makes her way through the intensive care unit. She stops briefly to talk to Julie, to see how Callie’s progress has been over the last few hours. Everything is going well, they’re hoping that they can move Callie out of intensive care in the morning.
She lets out a sigh of relief as she makes her way back down the corridor, she can’t wait see Callie now. It’d only been 3 hours since she’d left but with everything that has happened, she hated being away from her. All she wants to do was hold her girl.
Arizona walks into the room and smiles when she sees Callie sleeping soundly. She looks over at Callie’s parents greeting them with a smile. Carlos stands and gestures towards the corridor before he walks out of the room. Arizona gently places the tray of coffees and the bag of food down on the table near the door, she smiles at Marie and nods towards the cups, letting her know one of them is for her. She places the bag on the floor and follows Carlos out.
“Everything okay Carlos?” Arizona asks when she stops in front of him
“Callie is okay if that’s what you mean?” Carlos replies smiling.
“Yeah I know, I just spoke to Julie, she updated me on Callie’s condition and progress. But is something else wrong?” Arizona questions Carlos.
“Not exactly wrong. But Marie and I have been talking and we’d like to possibly suggest to Callie, about her coming home for a few weeks, while she’s recovering. Marie feels useless as a mother right now and wants to help out with Callie’s recovery as much as she can, and she would really love to spend some time with her.” Carlos explains.
“You can suggest it to Callie, but I don’t think she’ll go for it.” Arizona replies.
“Well I was thinking that you could ask her? And of course Arizona you are more than welcome to join Callie. I can always talk to the chief about getting you time off? I’ll pay, so money doesn’t have to be an issue here” Carlos says.
“Unfortunately, I have some important cases at the moment that I can’t leave. But I’ll ask Callie for you.” Arizona tells him.
“Thank you.” Carlos
“Don’t thank me yet, you know Calliope.” Arizona laughs. “If you don’t mind, I’m going to head back in.” Arizona says smiling at Carlos.
“No go in. She’s couldn’t stop looking at the time when you first left.” Carlos tells her.
Arizona walks back into the room and quietly makes her way over to the bed. She leans down and places a kiss on Callie’s cheek softly. She feels her stir under her kiss, and pulls back to see Callie opening her eyes. “Hey Beautiful” Arizona whispers leaning in to kiss her lips softly. “I didn’t mean to wake you.”
“Hey” Callie smiles. “I missed you.” She sleepily whispers.
“I missed you too, but I’m here now” Arizona replies. “How are you feeling?” She asks her.
“I’m okay. Little sore. Bailey came and checked the incision site on my stomach, everything looks good. I can’t wait to get out of this place though.” Callie says annoyed.
Arizona laughs, “I know you can’t, but you just have to be patient okay? They're hoping to move you to a ward tomorrow, so that’s a step in the right direction.” Arizona reassures her.
“I know, I just want out of here, the machines are noisy and the beds uncomfortable, I just want to be at home.” Callie whines.
“I know you do.” Arizona sympathizes and sits down next to Callie, gently wrapping an arm around her shoulder, Callie slowly changes her position to rest her head on Arizona’s shoulder and rests her broken wrist on Arizona’s stomach.
“OW.” Callie shouts, holding her stomach. Arizona doesn’t move, not wanting to risk causing Callie anymore pain.
“You okay?” She asks softly.
“Yeah” Callie replies moving her arm back to rest by her side. “Just couldn’t lie in that position.” She explains, before snuggling into Arizona’s shoulder, having found a position that doesn’t cause her excruciating pain. “You know, this is going to suck right? I’m going to struggle to s..”
“Calliope!” Arizona scolds, not letting Callie finish her sentence, she looks sideways at Callie’s parents.
Carlos clears his throat looking between the two girls and his wife. Callie looks at her parents and back to Arizona and smirks at her before laughing, she quickly grabs hold of her stomach trying to stop the pain that shoots through her.
“If you would’ve let me finish Dr Robbins, I was going to say, I’m going to struggle to snuggle with you…. Well at least for the moment, I can’t lay my arm across my body, without it hurting my stomach. How am I going to hug you?” Callie grumbles.
“Oh.” Arizona says feeling her face turn completely red in embarrassment. “We’ll figure it out.” She whispers placing a kiss on the top of Callie’s head and gently pulling her closer.
Callie snuggles into Arizona’s shoulder further, “You smell good… You smell like me… well not me now, because I’ve not washed in like 3 days, but you smell like I’d normally smell” Callie whispers.
“That’s because I showered at yours, and used your body wash.” Arizona laughs in reply.
“I’d die for a shower right now, hot running water, fresh soap.” Callie sighs.
“Please don’t say that. You almost did die on me.” Arizona whispers.
Callie looks up at her, “I’m sorry, wrong choice of words.” She replies.
“Its okay, how about before you start to really smell, I’ll help give you a sponge bath, tonight before you go to sleep? I know it’s not exactly a shower, but at least you’ll feel fresher.” Arizona asks.
“Arizona Robbins are you saying I smell!?” Callie pouts jokingly.
“Maybe?” Arizona hesitantly replies between giggles.
“You’re lucky I can’t tickle you right now, or you’d be in trouble.” Callie laughs.
“Well thank god for that then.” Arizona says as she leans in and places a kiss on Callie’s lips. “Bath tonight, okay?”
“Sounds good” Callie replies smiling, before leaning back in to capture Arizona's lips again.
Carlos clears his throat once more, making the girls pull apart. Callie smiles at her parents, and settles back into Arizona’s side resting her head on her shoulder. “Sorry.” She tells her parents.
“That’s okay Calliope. I’m just glad to see that you’re happy.” Marie confesses.
“Callie, I have something to ask you, or well an idea.” Carlos says look at Arizona.
“Yeah what’s that?” Callie inquires, looking between her father and Arizona.
Before Carlos has a chance to continue Arizona steps in, “When you get out of here, you’re going to need lots of help and care, and your mother would love to be there to help you. So your parents were thinking that it would be great for you to go back to Florida with them for a few weeks. You’d get to spend time with them and see your family.” Arizona tells her.
“Would you be coming too?” Callie asks.
“No. I have a heavy schedule over the next few weeks unfortunately.” Arizona explains.
Callie looks between Arizona and her mother. “What do you think?” Callie asks Arizona.
“Of course I don’t want you to go, I’d miss you like crazy, but I think it would be great for you to spend time with your mum and on a positive note, it means I won’t be at work worrying about you being alone, I’d be able to concentrate on the sick kids.” Arizona confesses honestly.
“I don’t need to be babysat Arizona.” Callie replies annoyed.
“I know that Calliope. But think about it, you have a broken wrist and a broken ankle, recovering from brain surgery and abdominal surgery, how are you going to get to the toilet by yourself? How are you going to get food? You’re going to be in a wheelchair.” Arizona states.
“I’m not going without you.” Callie stubbornly replies. “Sorry mum. I’d love to spend time with you, and once I’ve recovered, I promise I’ll come visit with Arizona. Plus I’m sure we can work out a schedule to have someone with me at all times, Mark and Cristina can help. I’ll have you during the night right?” Callie asks Arizona.
“The nights that I’m not on call, I wouldn’t be anywhere else.” Arizona smiles.
Callie grins, “Prefect. OH! I have the best idea!” Callie exclaims.
“Care to explain?” Arizona asks.
“Mum how would you like to stay in Seattle? You can come over and spend the days with me, help me out and then Arizona can take over at night and on her days off?”
“I’d love to stay. I’m sure your father can find me a nice hotel to stay at over the next two months or so.” Marie replies.
“That won’t be a problem… well I don’t think it will.” Callie ponders, looking at Arizona. “Since you’ll be staying at mine, would you mind if my mother stays at yours for the next few months?”
Arizona takes a second to think. “I think that’s the perfect idea. If you don’t mind, staying in a small almost empty apartment?” Arizona asks Marie.
Marie smiles. “No I don’t mind at all, as long as I get to spend more time with my Calliope and be here to help in any way I can.”
“Perfect!” Callie exclaims excitedly.
Carlos stands up and walks over to the bed placing a kiss on Callie’s head. “Now that, that is sorted, I’m going to take your mother to get some food and then we’ll head to the hotel for the evening. We’ll be back tomorrow morning okay?” Carlos tells his daughter.
“Okay Papa.” Callie replies.
Arizona carefully jumps up off the bed and grabs the small bag of food and two coffees she’d collected from the cafeteria earlier, “Here I grab these on my way up, it’s not much, some coffee and two chicken and salad sandwiches.” Arizona tells them, handing the bag to Carlos.
Carlos smiles as he takes the bag, placing a kiss on Arizona’s cheek, “Thank you.” He whispers before walking out of the room.
Marie wraps Arizona in a tight hug on her way out, “Make sure you get some rest too, you need to keep your strength up.” Marie tells her concerned.
“I will, I promise.” Arizona replies.
Marie continues the distance out the door and waves goodbye as she turns the corner.
Arizona smiles at Callie. “I love you.” She says as she makes her way back over to the bed.
Callie smiles back and leans up towards Arizona. “Ow” She winces holding her stomach again, “This is going to suck.” Callie pouts.
“What? Having your mother here?” Arizona jokes.
Callie laughs, “No, struggling to touch you, or kiss you without being in pain” Callie says.
“Yes, well some things will be a little more difficult.” Arizona ponders.
“I think we already figured that one out... I thought I had a dirty mind Dr Robbins. Did you honestly think I’d bring that up in front of my parents?” Callie laughs.
Arizona blushes, “I didn’t know what you were going to say, and I know how your mind works sometimes Dr Torres, and its anything but modest or innocent… so I wasn’t really sure.”
Callie giggles, “Well you know we have to swap sides of the bed when we get home right?” Callie holds up her broken wrist, raising her eyebrow, “This is definitely, no use to me or you in that department.” She jokes.
Arizona laughs. “We’ll figure it out Calliope, but right now you need to concentrate, on getting better, and actually being able to move without being in pain.”
“You can always just put the item in the top draw into action Cal?” Mark teases
Arizona turns to Mark with wide eyes. “What!?” She screeches.
“Mark!” Callie yells.
Marks leans against the door with a smug grin on his face. Arizona turns back to Callie and gives her a questioning look. “I’m sorry, I asked him to grab something from my top draw forgetting what was still in there. And big mouth here wasn’t supposed to say anything about what he saw.” Callie says glaring at Mark.
“I’m sure it’ll come in handy, over the next couple of months for blondie here, or she could always come visit me.” Mark jokes.
Arizona turns towards Mark and slowly walks over to him. “Your ego would love that wouldn’t it? Thinking you’re so good, that you could turn a lesbian straight?” Arizona snaps.
“I’m good, but I don’t think I’m that good.” Mark jokes in reply.
“Good, so get any thoughts you have out of your head.” Arizona warns.
“Oh but the images are just too good. Does Cal still like to be on top?” Mark asks raising his eyebrow
Arizona takes a deep breath before answering, “See, what you got there? Its just images, and old memories, me… I get to bend Callie in positions you couldn’t dream of and hear her scream my name. So why don’t you just take those lovely images and disappear.” Arizona replies, with a fake innocent smile.
Callie can’t help but laughs at the look that’s plastered its self across Marks face, one of shock and intrigue.
“Well, I taught her well… so any position you do, we’ve probably already done it.” Mark replies as quickly as his mind would let him.
“Taught her? Oh that’s right the famous ‘Sloan method’… well let’s just say it holds nothing against the ‘Robbins method’ which she uses now” Arizona cockily replies.
“Well obviously that’s going well, if you need a strap-on to make her scream. At least I’ve got the real thing to give her, any time she wants it… we’ll see how long it takes before she gets bored of the ‘Robbins method’ and comes running back to this” Mark retorts pointing towards himself.
“Mark!” Callie yells from her position on the bed.
Arizona clenches her fist in anger. “You think I don’t already know that I don’t have what you can offer her.” Arizona yells.
“Stop!” Callie yells. “Please stop! Mark, the strap-on has never been used okay? You happy now?” She asks.
“Callie, you don’t have to explain anything to him.” Arizona tells her.
“I know I don’t, but if he’s thinking this, my own best friend, I’d hate to think what other people have thought, or what you may have thought at times. It was bought one day after a conversation we’d had… about whether I miss being with men okay? Arizona thought that maybe one day I’d miss it… that day hasn’t come, because she’s been able to please me more than anyone in my life has, including you Mark… and even if we were using it, it wouldn’t be because I missed men, or because I needed a dick…”
“Cal, honestly you don’t have to explain, I was just teasing, I was just trying to make light of the situation.” Mark explains.
“I know exactly what you were doing Mark, you were being an asshole… you may be Callie’s best friend and you have your moments at being a decent human being, but right now you’re a true asshole you know that?” Arizona utters in disgust.
Arizona walks back over to Callie and leans down and kisses her cheek. “I’ve gotta go check on some of my patients, I was suppose to work today. I’ll be back later okay? I love you.” Arizona whispers, turning to leave.
Callie grabs her hand, “Arizona, baby, don’t go. Mark was just joking okay? Seriously what he said it’s never going to happen. Please stay.” Callie pleads.
Arizona turns back towards her, “I know this Calliope, but I really do have to check on my patients, I’ll be back soon, I promise.” Arizona softly replies.
Callie sighs and lets go of Arizona’s hand. “I love you.” She whispers as Arizona walks to the door.
Arizona turns back to Callie when she reaches the door, “I know.” She quietly replies before leaving.
Callie takes a deep breath before looking at Mark, “I’d love to break every bone in your body right now Mark! But I’m stuck in the bed, which also means I can’t chase after her right now. So I’m going to have to rely on you, the person who caused this. You’re going to go FIX this Mark Sloan. And I mean it! If you don’t fix this, I’m going to have my dad do the bone breaking for me. GO FIX THIS NOW!” Callie shouts.
“I really am sorry Cal, I was just having some harmless fun.” Mark says apologetically.
“I know you Mark, I get you and your sense of humor, but there is a fine line and you crossed it today. There was a reason I asked you not to bring this up in front of Arizona, and it wasn’t because of embarrassment, it was because she’s insecure…I wish you could've respected my wishes for once... Please just go talk to her for me.” Callie pleads.
“Okay, I’ll do my best, if I don’t return, she’s probably killed me.” Mark tells her as he runs out the door to find Arizona.
Callie sighs, letting her head fall onto her pillow. She hopes beyond anything that Mark can fix this before Arizona lets her insecurities get out of control.
