What books, short stories, etc that have not been made into a movie that you would be interested in perhaps seeing made into a movie?

a faithful handling of almost anything by William Gibson would be interesting

just found that Pattern Recognition has been 'announced' (2007). Doesn't necessarily mean much, given that Neuromancer was announced but never went anywhere.

I just looked and Neuromancer is "Inactive," which means that some studio/production company owns it but it is dead in the water. What I was told is that it will go into turn-around and then either the producer who owns it can try for another deal or some other person can try to pick it up.

so funny you mention carver, he's been in the forefront of my mind. a play i'm auditioning for tomorrow has this extensive argument about how carver is greatly inferior to miller. any thoughts on that?

I think one of my short stories would make an excellent film short or full fledged movie. I've been trying to find a short story collection to get it published in then I'll work on putting it on the big screen.

The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. It's a wonderful book that would be really hard to put on screen - but I think it could be done really well. Also, there needs to be more Ray Bradbury on the big screen.

there was a dc theatre company that put up an adaptation of the master and margarita which was apparently phenomenal and won all kinds of awards. and so much more imagery is possible with film, so maybe it can be done. and i've often thought recently that bradbury's fahrenheit 451 would be a well timed release considering all the reality based tv that seeks to publicly humiliate contestants, etc. :)

I recently re-read There Will Come Soft Rains by Bradbury - what a creepy short film that could be!

A Russian station just did a Master mini-series that was supposed to be really good.

one hundred years of solitude by marquez. i would have thought that stream of consciousness fiction would be impossible to film, but i think in the hands of someone like almodovar or wim wenders it might be possible. probably not, though.

I actually haven't read any Marquez yet (although 100 Years is on my bookshelf waiting - wait, make that in storage with the other books, but theoretically in the bookshelf).

Love in the Time of Cholera is somewhere in the system.
