Driving Mr. Author Man

I've been blown away by what my son's elementary school has been doing to prepare for a weeklong visit by children's author Robert San Souci, starting tomorrow. I can brag because I've had absolutely nothing to do with it. (For some reason, the link isn't working. Here's San Souci's website: Read more... )

Bob is basically the nicest, most charming guy ever. You'll have a blast with him.

He's one of our neighbors so he shops in my sisters store a lot and she does quite a few events with him.

My sister is ten years older than me, so when she was 20, she worked in the bookstore that she now owns. At the time, I was 10 and my library had a bunch of books by him. So I thought he must be, like, the most famous person ever. So when I went to the store and saw a bunch of books on hold for "Robert San Souci", I couldn't quite wrap my mind around the fact that he - the real, live, ultra-famous author - lived in a regular neighborhood and shopped in a regular store. Wha? Shouldn't he be, like, in his castle on Skull Island or something??

Your story about when you were little is so funny! (And, hey, I can't remember if we've discussed this before, but my sister is 10 years younger than me, and there are no other sibs in our family. We're very close, and the age difference doesn't seem so big now.) Anyway, that's so cool that she worked in the store that she owns!)

And I was already very excited for RSS to come, and now I'm even more so! He visited our school 10 years ago and was a huge hit. (But none of the kids there now, of course, would have met him.)

Our old cars aren't nearly as cool as a 1959 Studebaker Lark! (Is that it in the picture?) I'm not into cars much, as long as they get me where I need to go, but I appreciate the cool ones as much as anybody!

Yep. That's the car. Pretty cool, if I do say so myself!

I got to drive Norton Juster around a few years ago, Kel. Cameron bugged me about cleaning the car for weeks before he arrived. It was very cool! (And one of Norton's favorite stories was when he received a letter from a kid saying, "my teacher said to write to you because you're still alive.")

That is so cool! And so funny about Cam, and what the kid's letter said. Great to see you here, Cheryl! You should get a free LJ account and hook up with all of us! (Like we need another distraction, I know!)
