What Makes a Misfit?

Dec 12, 2007 18:44

So last year, round about this time, tygie_bard and I got into a discussion about the claymation holiday classic Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, that prompted a major philosophical discussion in my LJ: What the hell is wrong with the little girl dollie with the pigtails?

Though they list the faults and flaws of all the other toys that land on the Island of Misfit Toys, hers are never mentioned. Since there doesn’t seem to be anything odd or deformed about her appearance, what is it that makes her a misfit?

antjgiab3 offered the gem of this Rudolph site but it didn’t really provide any satisfactory answers, so a debate ensued.

Several possible theories were offered in the course of that conversation, including:

  • Demonic possession.
  • She has transgender issues.
  • She was supposed to be a Barbie doll, but missed getting the boobs.
  • She was supposed to be a Betsy-Wetsy but had pee shyness and couldn't go in front of others.
  • Child porn star.
  • She was always more attracted to Barbie than Ken.
  • She's really a midget, not a little girl.

So with new friends on my flist, and some old friends who didn’t participate in the fun, I thought I would ask again this year. Perhaps it will become an annual event. In any case, it drives me a little bonkers not to know, so tell me…

What do you think is wrong with her?

(For those who can’t remember, haven’t seen, or just want to see it again, I found the scene on youtube and you can watch it below.)
