Adam's show - Paris - 11/18/2010

Nov 21, 2010 01:42

(I took notes after the show cause I didn't want to forget anything and since I wasn't home I knew the actual recap would have to wait.)

So, by now you guys have probably seen most of the videos from Paris and maybe you know even more than I do but I'm still going to share my experience of it ;)

First of all, I stayed in Paris for a few days at my best friend's place, which is why I was mostly offline. I will write about the rest of my trip in another entry. This one is just about the show.
So, that day we kept running late. We had to wait for the bus for 20 minutes, there were police officers cockblocking us near the Louvre and we couldn't get to our bus stop (still don't know why), traffic, got back to my friend's place to change, then I took the wrong Métro line, went the wrong way, then couldn't find the venue. Of course it was already dark at this point and that place is like a maze. It's like a park with lots of paths and platforms that each lead to a different venue and I'm sure it's really pretty but when it's dark and you don't know the place... it's easy to get lost. Luckily there were signs and I ended up finding the venue.

By the time I got there the doors were already open so I had two options: try to get down to the pit and end up ~close but probably stuck behind 6 rows of tall people or stay on the higher level where I was (there was like one step leading to the merch table and the soundboard) and have some sort of view of the whole thing. I chose to stay up there, since it also meant I got some air and wasn't pushed and shoved.

Unfortunately I ended up behind a group of loud, obnoxious drunk merry girls who were doing everything to get noticed even before the opener started. I think I also saw near that group a guy who was on French Idol a few years ago. I had read somewhere he was an Adam fan so that's not a surprise. Before the opening act we heard songs from Depeche Mode, The Cure...

The opening act was a guy named Jon Du. I didn't know him but he sounded pretty cool. He was on his own with an acoustic guitar. Good set. He played a nice mashup of MGMT's Kids and Poker Face. He snapped pictures of us and told us he would tag us all on facebook lol. Here they are.

The wait between Jon and Adam seemed like it lasted forever, not gonna lie. But the atmostphere was pretty cool regardless. They played a lot of ~party songs: Gaga, P!nk, Katy Perry, JT, even the fucking BEP. Was glad to hear Kelly Clarkson (My Life Would Suck Without You) and the Scissor Sisters (Any Which Way)! Two (I suppose gay) guys behind me were like "Of course they're playing all the ~gay songs!" (yes I could hear the tilde in their tone, shut up). At one point I saw a tank top fly and someone said "Well she's naked." lol I didn't see her but apparently some girl not far from me stripped down to her underwear.

Finally, as Katy Perry's Firework *Peacock [lol how could I get that wrong?] was still playing, the lights went down.

ADAM.

OK. I have to say at the beginning of the concert I was so disappointed I couldn't see properly that it was hard to enjoy. I kept trying to move left and right to catch a glimpse of Adam between heads. I could see him pretty well when he was on the platforms during the medley tho. Didn't see what Adam did to Tommy during DTRH (on the "crystal balls" line) and I haven't watched the video yet. Did see the Fever kiss pretty well. It was cute.

Good thing tho: not being able to see very well made me focus on Adam's voice and appreciate it even more. He sounded fucking perfect that whole show. And may I add, amazing troupe. I was especially impressed with Monte and Isaac. And UNF TERRANCE.

Some random notes about the songs:

-I enjoyed the hell out of the Erotica interlude.
-SFW is so cool live.
-WWFM made me tear up. Not because of the song itself, but.... some of you may not realize what it's like to be "scorned" as we say all the time. But we live in countries where most people don't (or didn't until recently) know Adam at all so for the past, say, 18 months I didn't know anyone in real life who liked Adam too - except my niece but that's because I made her listen to him lol. So I still felt like I was ~alone in my stanning. And there I suddenly found myself in the  middle of a crowd who was singing along to every word. That was especially noticeable on WWFM of course, since it's the only single that's been released here so far. So yeah. That was ~emotional for me.
-Aftermath: OMFG. I always love that song acoustic but he really did sound amazing that night. One girl in front of me was bawling during most of the song and was comforted by her friend.
-Strut, IIHY and MA were very cool singalongs. We all bounced with our hands up in the air during the last part of IIHY, that was awesome :D
-Of course I did the "disco rodeo" and "Maserati" hand moves (martinha_15   you will have to do that too in a few days!)

You've probably seen most of it too but there was so much fun and naughtiness in the banter that night! I kept cracking up! Favorite quotes (probably not verbatim):

"Grab my leg. Ohhh, ohhhh!"
"So many pretty faces in the crowd. It's turning me on a little bit."
"This is 'Le Gay Paris', isn't it? Well, it is now."
and of course: "How do you say 'lube it up' in French?"

And I loved how he kept giggling every time he said a couple of words in French. "Merci beaucoup. haha!"
Oh and you've all seen the mic BJ and the adorable shrug that ensued.

If not

Which of course leads us to the encore. OMFG. I fucking saw a song that Adam had never performed before. When I heard Hendrix I thought "Oh cool, the band has another interlude now." But then ADAM. SANG PURPLE HAZE. I kept flailing and some people around me apparently had no idea what that song was and I wanted to punch them in the face.
Adam mentioned Monte's birthday being the following day and then Adam was like "I wanna do another one. What do you guys wanna hear?" lol seriously. So they decided to do WLL but since they hadn't performed it in a while they needed some prep (hence the "lube it up" quote). Still can't believe that whole thing happened right in front of me. And I finally saw WLL performed by Adam live. Brilliant.

A few words about the audience: quite a lot of guys, from what I could see, pretty young crowd (people in their twenties, I'd say), neon pink and green wigs, Gaga/Jpop hair, a lot of Adam-like hairstyles... A guy right in front of me, very cute btw, even had an Eye of Horus tat on his wrist. Some fans also had planned to show up with signs with hearts drawn on them and they lifted them up when the encore started. There were also some heart-hands at times.

I didn't stay after the show cause it was raining and I was alone and had to take the Métro back so i didn't get to meet anyone. I'm so sorry I didn't get to meet omgelvis  :( (I should have yelled your name when I arrived at the venue. Maybe I could have joined you in the front). I blame my crappy Cale-like phone that can't even handle twitter.
But still. No regrets about the show itself. I was on such a high on my way back! I almost sang on the Métro, then skipped to the building. Then arrived at the flat and everyone was asleep so I had to quell my flail. Of course I couldn't fall asleep right away so after I wrote down some thoughts I listened to my mp3 player and danced/sang silently on the futon. Good times.

I probably forgot some stuff. Maybe I will edit later. Sorry I don't have any media to offer but considering where I was standing it wouldn't have been great. Or maybe I would have just used my camera as a periscope.
