This flash animation tries to explain why there are 10 dimensions. It's kinda cool. Click the graphic on the right. http://www.tenthdimension.com/flash2.php

Is this your understanding, Winkels?

That reminds me of the time I found that fold in time underneath the bridge and traveled back to when I was 4 and I deposited 100 dollars in a savings account.

COOOOOOOOOOL!!!

Man, I wish I'd watched that YEARS ago!!! I never understood what could make up the 5th-10th dimensions... now I understand. I want to learn more about the super strings theory...

Science is fun!

Is there a test tube in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

We watched Deja-Vu yesterday, and it tried to make me believe that people travelled to the past but it never mentioned anything about dimensions... so Theo and I pondered it after the movie and determined that they must have found a way to explore a different dimension (they mentioned a wormhole), but weren't sure if it was the 4th or 5th... Well, after seeing this flash animation, I still don't know what happened (or which dimensions were involved) but at least it was interesting to see someone try to explain it!!

I mean, I'm no expert, but once they start going past 5 dimensions it gets a little bullshit. The whole "many difference universes" contained in some of the dimensions is a bit questionable. No one can really say for sure if quantum mechanics leads to parallel universes.

Dimensions 5-11 are likely what's called "compactified", which is just like if you imagine that flatworld thing but with the dimensions rolled up into tiny little cylinders.
