This is wonderful. Great character voices. Nice blend of hilarity and tenderness and a hint of bittersweet. I especially loved the third section. Though, also, this exchange:

“Is she saying ‘I ain’t no Harlem fat girl’?”

“It’s hollaback girl,” Lilly corrected, enunciating each syllable perfectly.

“Because it totally sounds like Harlem fat girl.”

“How does that even make any sense?”

“And hollaback girl isn’t ridiculous at all,” Logan mocked.

killed me DEAD with AWESOMENESS.

You have no idea what a compliment this is for me, because you write some of the best VM character voices, and you know I love all your fic, so thank you so much for even reading this and all the lovely comments.

As for the Harlem Fat girl exchange, one of my friends actually thought that was the name of the song (which, considering what's really said, might've made her better off). Apparently, she went around for weeks, singing those lyrics, even going so far as to imagine an elaborate story about the singer (because she's crazy big into country and had no idea who Gwen Stefani is...which again, probably made her much better off) being fat and from Harlem and this was like her revenge anthem (and again, I say, doesn't this make for a much better song, or at least give it a point?). And then one day, I had to rip her out of her fantasy world and tell her the truth. She was distraught for days.

But yeah, it makes for good funny.[/shamelessly exploits her friends for humor]

“Because it totally sounds like Harlem fat girl.”

Oh my God, it does. Hee.

Very interesting story. I like the blend of different moods and even how Lilly's prominence isn't as stressed in some

It totally sounds like Harlem Fat Girl. Everytime I hear that song that's all I ever hear.

I'm really glad you liked that Lilly wasn't exactly the main voice in each one. I was a little worried how that would come off, being that this is Lilly Fic.

Thanks so much for reading and replying!

I'm relieved that people seemed to think this is in-character, especially Lilly, since this was my first time writing her. All the VM characters can be so tricky to get right.

Thanks for reading!

Wow. That was wonderfully written. Your voices were dead on and I could see each of these sequences playing out had Lilly lived.

I have to admit that I first clicked on the story link more to see what songs you were using than to actually read the fic, but I started to read it and was hooked. Your song choices were excellent and well placed within each section. I particularly enjoyed the "hollaback girl" exchange, because who having heard the song, hasn't pondered it's ridiculousness.

This truly was a great read and I am so glad I took the time to read it. Thank you for taking the time to write it.

It's okay that the music led you here. That actually makes me happy, because I love setting my stories to music, and I'm glad you think I did well with them.

I particularly enjoyed the "hollaback girl" exchange, because who having heard the song, hasn't pondered it's ridiculousness.

Is it wrong that all but one of the songs I picked came down to their potential to be mocked? Hollaback Girl definitely won, hands down. The Augustana song came in last, because I'm kind of in love with it.

Thanks for reading this, and taking the time to give me your thoughts!
