There is a battle raging in my office right now. Not of words, brawn or even wits. A battle of self control. A war between the ladies who lunch and a chocolate cake

how disturbing the way patriarchy is causing such a commotion. how a source of comfort and enjoyment becomes faux pas because patriarchy wnats women to be small, to take up less space so that women are less powerful and more controllable. your siutation happens all the time. patriarchy thwarts women against women, just as in the setting of your office.
it is thought that "being strong" means not giving in to the peer pressures because it is thought that other women will thrive on your shortcomings. this is the way patriarchy wants us to feel.
i think you would be deemed the most courageous if you didn't follow suit to the "rules" our society places upon women and rather you found power in resisting our societal stigmas that keep women passive, silenced, and powerless.
basicaly, if you want to eat the cake, do it. it's so tempting because you're forbidding yourself from doing it. and as far as the other women's response? concern yourself with only you and what is good for you.

and I did eat the cake. I was the first to cut it. I knew I would be.
I agree with what a sad state of affairs it is- this pressure we place on women. I hate that I continue to fall prey to these attitudes that are pushed on me daily. I attempt to stand out, as a woman of strength; determined not to make myself into something I'm not to fit societies "mold" of what a woman should be. In trying to do this, however, I always fall short. Slapped in the face by the Paris Hiltons of the world. Feeling even worse for buying into the idiocy, but knowing I do. Knowing that right now there are three women hiding in their offices with a piece of fucking cake because they don't want anyone to know that they are not this "social ideal" that society expects them to be, makes me angry.
I write about all of this in a joking manner. But I really hate it.

you must first believe that you can overcome falling short.
i mean, none of us are perfect, we have all fallen to peer pressure, to soceity's temptations... it's about raising consciousness that it exists and work towards not delving into it or succumbing to it.

Great entry, Kellie... the dramatic tension made me laugh. :)
As for the feminist stances, I agree, but Presto is far more eloquent in speaking about it - so I shall just say "thumbs up - take down the cake."
