oh hai lj! i'z bin bizzy!

i promise a real update in the very near future about, among other things, my first real concert, first self-controlled thanksgiving and first directing experience, but let me just use this opportunity to adamantly reccomend sicko.

after becoming somewhat disillusioned with mr. moore, i wasn't sure about it...but it's awesome. it really is non-partisan: what it does is show how we are seriously failing our citizens where healthcare is concerned. in a land where our first right is supposedly to life, followed quickly by liberty and pursuit of happiness, it seems more and more like we have the right to be healthy...if we're rich. the poor, those in debt...well, you've got to fend for yourself.

incidentally, it also disclosed the amount of money hilary rodham clinton, former advocate of universal healthcare, has recieved from healthcare lobbyists. it is less than one person, and his name begins with "s" and rhymes with "santorum." ouch.

i'll admit that lately healthcare has been a big issue for me: namely, h do kevin and i make sure that i still have healthcare when my parents refuse to let me be on their plan anymore (as it's only a matter of time), and how do we make sure that i'm able to see a care provider that i like? the provider i'd like to see is in olean, ny, which is 20 minutes from us. her name's susan, she's a midwife, and i love her. however, our (i.e. kevin's) insurance says that's out of network, because they want you to stay in pennsylvania. they'd rather we went to see a midwife in warren, which is 30 minutes away, who we don't know and don't have any particular desire to see. all of this is moot right now, though, because kevin and i aren't married and "not established enough as a couple" since we don't have a mutual bank account, so his insurance refuses to let him put healthy, twenty-one year old me onto it. it's been a mess, and my insurance through my dad (since it's through halliburton) is even worse as far as finding providers where we live.

and, after watching sicko, i feel even more strongly that this is NOT something that should be allowed. he interviews people from canada, france, and britain - none of whom worry at all about healthcare or what's going to happen if they're sick. they know what's going to happen if they're sick. they're going to go to a doctor, who is going to treat them to the best of their ability...and, in cuba (yes. cuba.), a woman who is in labor has to worry less about her newborn dying than an american woman....

in short: it was my favorite michael moore film, and y'all might want to get your passports renewed and become accustomed to the sight of mounties. why? because you'll be visiting me and my healthy canadian family in a few years.
