I'm a minimalist for birthdays. The kids invite their friends over, I order pizza and cake. That's it. Linus turned 6 (!) this year, so he had his first sleepover, but most kids came over and then went home at bedtime, only two stayed over. Apparently kids these days are not accustomed to sleepovers this early! So weird...

Yeah, it's nice to keep things simple. That's why I don't even invite anyone until a few days before! If I planned things too soon, I might have the whole preschool on hand! The thing is that I still like to have some adults over for party times, too. We will use any reason to throw a party in this house.

I'm thinking bagels, cold cuts, chocolate balls, balloons, and ... mimosas.

That last one...so key. Mimosas have turned out to be the secret to making otherwise uptight Pton mommies more tolerable and in a few cases, actually ok.

(They always protest at first too. Oh no, I couldn't possibly. It takes all of my power not to say, like, shut up already, let's make this as close to fun as people who don't basically have anything in common can.)

Niko has really taken to West Coast eating! I love it. Can I get that chocolate date ball recipe? Sounds delicious.

Very sad news about little Sopor. I hope she can be comfortable in her last days. <3

I'm with you on the moving thing. I hope this last move into Walter's house is the very last one I do.

"I want to build out a garden and work on it for years. I want to know a house's very bones. I want to know (and fix) every creaky floor board. I want to watch trees grow and grow. I want to know every neighbor's drama and dog. I want to set up house and never, ever leave. I want this moving around to just plain stop." I like this :) Moving around a lot can start to feel a little frustrating after a while. Also, pancakes for breakfast and strawberry rhubarb crisp for dinner sounds like an awesome birthday. That kid has his priorities straight! ;)

Happy birthday Nico! Hope you had fun! Bubbles and chalk work wonders for my household.

I'm so sorry about your kitty. It's so hard to watch your best little friends get sick :(. I hope the last days/weeks are filled with joyful kittiness.
