eBooks Tree argh

I thought they didn't have my stuff on here because I was using the alphabetised list search but using the search box, they have 28 of my fics on the site. With great sadness because I know a lot of people read on AO3 without accounts, I'm going to have to do as suggested and lock everything to registered users ( Read more... )

Sorry that happened to you!

Would you be willing to share why? I'm wondering what I want to do, and I tend to just not do anything and wait to read what OTW says - I wonder, though, whether during this time they might copy fica ans then not free them

AO3 admin suggested the measure of restricting works to registered users so I figured I would do what they suggest.

AO3 is already on it, sweetie. They're blocking access to the stories so that no one from there can actually download them. They're working on doing much more to stop these thieves.

I saw that it was AO3 admin suggesting that authors take the measure of restricting access while they're working on it so I might do that and then change it when they give the all clear.

But... but... as a fanfiction author, your stories are free to begin with, right? I've never paid to read your stuff... and I'm a fan of your writings.

I've never been to this site, but if they have a comment or review space for the stuff they offer up for sale, it might be worth just going there and saying something like, "This story was written for non-profit purposes. Read it FREE here. Do not pay for this book, you are being cheated by unscrupulous fic thieves."

It might even cover you if copyright issues arise because of the sale of your fic.

Oops my bad. Just went there and realised that they were offering the books for free. Sorry. Maybe my suggestion comment should be: "This fic was stolen by unscrupulous fic thieves. Read it Advertising free here."

To register or see comments or ANYTHING you get redirected to a third party site and they require your credit card number - which is NOT super dodgy at all. Basically - it's one of those sites that is "free" - until you try to use it.

Plus - they're making money off something that *is* free and should be free and is freely available from a site they bot-attacked to get the work which is affecting the user experience of the original site.

So it is a scam...
So sorry to hear that they did this to you. But all the more reason to warn their readership.

Looks like everything has been removed except for 1 story - unfortunately it's one of my Big Bangs with maichan's art so I'll see if there is anything I can do to remove this last one.

Looks like everything has been removed except for 1 fic for me - not sure if that was the DMCA or AO3 working it's magic. I'll just have to see if I can get that final fic removed but might just lock that one for now until I can get it taken down properly.

There is no way this site is a legit site, I just cannot believe it's not infringing on the copyrights of so many published works. No way.

Yeah - considering it has a whole bunch of Terry Pratchett and the Harry Potter books on there?

Looks like most stuff has been removed - they still have one of my fics on there (from 28!) so that's positive - I'll look around to see if they have a way to make sure everything is removed - I think AO3 had a hand in getting everything taken down.
