Ten Random Facts About Me (no order)

1) Last night I got bored, and decided that it would be fun to give myself a fake black eye using my ultra-femme makeup supplies. It looked pretty good, except that I didn't really have a matte purple eyeshadow. So it was the right COLOUR for a bruise, but a bit shimmery. Next time I have people over, I'm going to give myself another fake black eye ( Read more... )

Hey, long time no LJ posts!

Are you still at Stony Brook, or back in Canada? When you last posted, you were having blues...

Keep me posted!

Hey Goodall,

Yep, I'm back, and feeling much better than in the fall. I'm still in Stony Brook, too -- I'll be here for another couple of years, most likely.

I've been following your posts, even though I haven't been posting. I'm particularly interested to hear about all of the writing work that you've been doing (both the workshop and the encyclopedia entries). I've been a bit writer's - blocked lately, and it occurs to me that you might be able to suggest some good resources? I'm thinking of trying The Artist's Way again, but there must be others.

Nice to hear from you!

To be honest, there hasn't been a single book that has helped me out of writer's block. I have so many things going on in my life that I have to carve out time for my writing, and when I do, I make all conditions as optimal as possible. If I am at home, I make my writer's space as neat and distraction free as possible, I have whatever I like to eat and drink, and I get into a zone. I have to tell myself that I don't care how long it takes...I am here now, in the moment, and I have to write X.

My biggest problem isn't not knowing what to say, but how to say it, or just unleashing some very painful things in my writing.

You know -- that's very sensible advice. I'm going to start paying more attention to my workspace, in particular.

After reading about your workshop, I looked at Tom Spanbauer's website. His comment that "excellence only comes with not being afraid of who you are" is one that I've been keeping in mind. Really, I think that's what my block has been about. I'm not sure what it is that I'm afraid of... but I think it's something. And whether or not it helps me with my work, I've got to figure that out.

For some reason, most of my intense junior-high crushes were on younger versions of then-old, or dead, men. Aldous Huxley, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan... the list goes on. :)

I like chamber music too, sigh!

Re your black eye: you are SO weird.

Diva Cup=awesome.

I also add ridiculous amounts of sugar to my coffee.
