Apparently SSHRC has mailed my yearly earnings but it may take "up to two weeks" (quoting the nice lady on the phone) to arrive here. If you think that's bad, the (less nice) automated voice told me "three to four weeks." Are they sending it via donkey? Don't they understand that it's going to rain soon and I need wellies, that I'm putting off ( Read more... )

Canadia Post sucks. Especially now that I live in Royal Mail Land. I agree that two to three to four weeks is ridiculous (even for Canadia), especially given the importance of the cargo. In Royal Mail Land, there's mail delivery on a Saturday. A Saturday! Couldn't you just die?

I'm trying so hard I've got my eyes squeezed real tight, but I'm having trouble scrounging up the sympathy here. Siphoning our noble Canadian currency down into the economy of evil? Those people don't even appreciate the value of our nature-loving-(reality-obscuring) coins (you don't see crushed baby seal skulls on the dime, for instance). Come to think of think, maybe you should call back SSHRC and double-check that they aren't shipping down a crate of loonies and twoonies. Because that would explain why it would take so long for it to get there. Some fall through the cracks in the box, you gotta stop and pick them up and stuff them back in, plus money gets heavy in coin-form once you start shipping more than, say, four dollars. If SSHRC sends you your money in coins, post again and you will definitely have my sympathy. Empathy even, because I recently bought a pair of khaki pants that hang so nicely but have such shallow pockets that ALL the coins fall out with such ease it's as if they hate the pants as much as the pants hate them ( ... )

Can I pretend I misspelled "disobediance" on purpose? Like, I was so into the idea that I wanted to represent it at the level of signifier by disobeying the facism of language? Because now that I think of it (or, to quote myself directly above, that I think of think), that's what I was doing. Gramattik dizobidee-enz. Yeah. That's it.

LJ survey: Is it more pathetic that
(a) I proofread these merely blah-blah entries?
(b) I proofread them but only after I post them, thereby revealing myself as a vain reader of my own postings?
(c) that's I'm so ill-confident at this stage of writing that I have to obsess about my ability to spell by drawing attention to it in a whole other post that includes a mutiple choice survey?

and the survey says . . . (dingdingdingding)

I also only ever proofread after I've posted, if at all.
As for the survey, I pick (d).

Your lack of sympathy is both understandable and justified. The U.S. economy is evil, though I'm not convinced that the Canadian one is all that much better. Capitalism, you know? Loonies and twoonies do make far more pleasing noises than paper dollars when they leap out of pockets.
