After Nana's first cancer surgery when she only had about a foot of colon left, she ate prune juice and bran flakes every day to make sure she didn't have problems.

I got totally into the whole bran flakes thing. I adored them. It's raisin bran without the raisins.

Chris might consider the raisin bran option for Zach. Or bran flakes with other fruit if he doesn't like raisins, as I didn't.

I think the pooping and pain and pooping equals shame connection is probably the biggest obstacle. No one likes pain or shame.t

I have one word for you on this subject. PATIENCE! It is a miracle you survived my lack of patience. I regret my lack of this commodity when you were a little guy more than anything else in my life. If I could go back and change only one thing that would be the one thing I would change. You know my mistakes, don't fall into the same pits I fell into. It sounds like your friends have given you some good ideas and resources to look into. Just remember this problem dose not have quick fix. Love and patience with Zach at this point in his life may be very important.
Look for Peanut brittle recipe in e-mail box and Dad will call you Thanksgiving morning around 9:45 your time. Love you the mostest!
