So, Clint and I went to Minnesota this weekend for my cousin's wedding. It was at some Embassy Suites by the airport. That part was fine. The BEST part of the trip, though, was leaving a day early to take the six hour trip at a leisurely pace and stay overnight in Iowa. It was awesome because we had plenty of time to stop anyplace that looked interesting along the way.
We ate lunch at this place in the middle of nowhere. A retired neurosurgeon runs it with his wife and teenaged son. Clint tried his first taste of Indian food, which was really great and we were regaled with plenty of the doc's theories while we ate lunch outside in his garden.
Later on, we decided to stop at the National Hobo Museum in Britt, IA. They have a convention there every year. I never realized how famous certain hobos were within their circle. They crown a king and queen annually.
Clint bought a hobo record here.
That afternoon, we decided to hang out in Clear Lake, IA. It was a totally awesome town with a huge lake, a pretty business district that hasn't died, and really friendly people. Also, we found our favorite bar ever in the basement of some old lady's house.
That night, we stayed at a Bed and Breakfast about a block from the lake. We had the entire top floor of this old house to ourselves. It even had a little sitting room with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies on the table. We watched "The Best of Johnny Carson" before tucking into bed. In the morning, the owner made us the most delicious breakfast ever and sent us on our way.
Anyway, all of this crap is highly recommended. Also, if you're reading this, Tony, Clear Lake could easily fit into our 5 year-plan. That place rocks.
