My msn alert thingy just told me that the Crocodile Hunter died today. WTF.

Oh my God! He was killed by a stingray! How is that even possible?! I mean, I guess it sort of seemed inevitable that he'd eventually be killed by one of the crazy animals he dealt with, but still! He's the bloody Crocodile Hunter. :( What a freakin' bummer, man.

It is sad for his family and that - but for fuck's sake the man had no respect for nature. People can talk about enthusiasm, passion and intelligence (which I'll let slide, cause that's just a whole other post), but going around upsetting animals is not cool. Would everyone think he was so great if he'd made a career out of poking kittens in the head till they swatted him? I think not.

I thought he was pretty bonkers, but still...he was only 44 and had a wife and two kids. I more find the story intruiging because of the way he died. So random. But yeah, I agree with you about him upsetting animals on purpose. I imagine he probably pissed off that stingray pretty bad, since they're really not aggressive animals. I do believe that he was passionate about what he did, but I also think that the majority of the time he went about getting cool footage in the wrong manner.

Totally. Like I said, I feel bad for the family. But random? Surely if you spend your life antagonising dangerous animals (and he was filming at the time don't forget) then being killed by one you've pissed off just a bit too much isn't so unexpected :P

I didn't mean random like that...I mean, it seemed pretty inevitable that he'd eventually be killed pissing some animal off, but who gets killed by a stingray, honestly? (Well, other than Steve Irwin.) It's just such a weird death. Like, can you imagine knowing someone who was killed by a stingray? It just sounds so bizarre.
