Did you know that one in six hate crimes are motivated by the victim's sexual orientation, and yet today's federal laws don't include any protections for these Americans? What's even more outrageous is that the radical right is running an all-out campaign to stop Congress from expanding hate crimes laws to include sexual orientation and gender

I'm not sure how I feel about hate crime (and particularly hate speech) legislation. I'm 100% in favor of equal rights regardless of race, sex, orientation, gender identity, age, etc. But, something about the whole hate crime thing feels like it has the potential to snowball into a form of thought-policing. Haven't really made up my mind on that, though... still pondering and willing to be convinced either way.

Done and done. I'm sure I'll get another letter from my hateful, right-wing legislator giving me some half assed reason why he thinks my opinion is invalid because, I like in Georgia...home of the ignorant. But still.. :)
