Oh! I wrote to the same image, but never thought to name (and name, and name again!) the birds. Brilliant use of progression in this poem, Kelly.

Ash phoenixes and doves?! Wow. This is perfect, grappling delicately with both a history of rising from ashes and the carrion crows of violence, adding at the end a subtle song of peace. Beautifully done.

I love that you moved from crows to phoenixes to doves. I can see them all in way you've described them here and in relation to the image. What a lovely poem.
