The Ancient Greeks defined beauty as perfection. for something to be perfect it reflected their sense of proportion and symmetry. Many greek sculptors formulated canons (systems) of proportions so strict and all encompassing that they calculated the size of every body part in advance, even the fingers and toes, according to mathematical ratios. With something like that, I think if you reverse the way you think about it, it's not so bad.

For example:

You could think about it as if, in order to be beautiful, something has to conform to this mathematical formula.

Or...

As it turns out, many things that we consider beautiful actually share a common mathematical trait. And, for me, that is the more beautiful (haha) and has Creator written all over it.

But I also agree with you in that beauty does not always equal perfection. Sometimes too much perfection can actually be a turnoff, ya know?
