Her hands dig deeper into the dark, damp earth, feels the dirt stuck beneath her fingernails. She smiles when Jin joins her, silent as ever, but she's grateful for his company. Never had she dared to dream that the journey where she was supposed to leave him, would bring them back together in ways that they both had thought impossible. She loved him now, like she had loved him the first time they had met and that look in his eyes told her that he felt the same.
--
His fingers touched hers briefly and their eyes met, a secret smile, a longing look and they progressed with their work. He knew Sun took this garden seriously and he wanted her to know he was there for her, that he could be the man he once promised her he could, no, he would be for her. This island had done something incredible and he wondered what would happen if they were ever rescued.
--
Later, when the rescue boat had come and Sun had seen that ship with Jin on it blow up, all the will to live had left her. There was no way she could get her life back together, there was no way she could survive without him, no way she wanted to live without him. But she had to, if not for her own sake, for the sake of the baby that was within her.
--
Somehow, she had survived. First, she had lived for Ji-Yeon, she had been her reason for waking up in the morning, for going to bed at night and for sometimes even making her smile and every now and then, she could think of Jin without tears flowing down her cheeks. Later, another feeling inside of her kept her going, revenge. She would have Ben murdered and she would see to it herself. Things never turned out the way you wanted them to turn out unless you did it yourself. So that's what she ate, slept and breathed. Revenge.
But she didn't know Jin was still alive, she didn't know her heart was still hurting, still bleeding "Jin, Jin, Jin" with every beat. She had done numb and there was nobody there to hold her at night and tell her things would be all right. She had stopped believing they would be.
--
And then, quite suddenly, there was the answer, the solution to her problems. At least, that's what she thought.
"Jin is still alive."
Her heart had started beating as fast as if she'd just ran ten miles, her breath hitched and her mind was clearer than it had been in three years. When she saw the ring, she didn't need to see it up close to know it was his.
Jin was alive.
And so, her goal in life changed, she left Ji-Yeon, her heart aching, but she knew she would be cared for and loved and realised that if she ever came back, she would be a better mother for her.
--
The island was as beautiful as she remembered, but now she knew the dangers, she knew what could be there around every tree, what could be hiding in every bush. But she didn't care, because behind every tree, or behind every bush, there could be man that she had loved ever since they had met, the man that was the father of her child, the man that would make her happy once more.
