I am now safely arrived in Temuco, in Chile. Temuco doesn't seem *attractive* architecturally, but it has parks, and visible hills in three directions out of four, and broad, well-maintained pavements, and pedestrian crossing signs on every corner in the centre, and so gets 5 out of 5 as a manageable place to visit. I'm in a super-central modern ( Read more... )

I think I chose it because it was the most interesting-looking near the bus terminal, but the photos on Booking.com actually sold it short.

I see a lonely little pink lupin! I was telling Sharon about all the lupins and she was unsure about what flower I was talking about until I explained that they were the blue flowers that fill the fields in the Maritime region of Canada and she clued in quickly. Her step father was from Newfoundland and they made an annual trek by car from Southern Ontario, so she was very familiar with the sight.

That salad sounds delicious and looks it too!

We have double decker buses here for tours as well, so the picture made me laugh. I guess it's a thing around the world.

And another great collection of pictures.

Lupin is "altramuz" in Spanish, I have just learned. They were fairly common in the Falklands, too, and I think I assumed from that that they were everywhere - but of course the Falklands are an extreme maritime environment.

I was annoyed with myself for not getting a picture of the bus as we went past, but I think that a photo of the sign is better. It shows the *attitude* towards the bus.

Does "altramuz" mean anything other then the name of the flower?

I've tried to grow lupins in my garden and they never survive more then a season which always disappoints me.

I like the sign better anyways. Lord knows I've seen enough of those buses over the years. *g*
