i love jazz. obsessively. i listen to '40s in the morning on the way to school with my dad, the dave brubeck quartet at night when i fall asleep, miles davis/art tatum/nat king cole/big band at the lake. when i replay my old family home videos, fats waller and louis jordan are consistently in the background. in fact, if i ever hear the songs "little curly hair in a high chair" or "saturday night fish fry," i lapse into lengthy and vividly detailed flashbacks of my childhood, of dancing with my mom and dad while those songs crackled from an ancient record player
