I Agree with me

In P. J. O’Rourke’s essay “I Agree with Me" he discusses some of the characteristics of politicians. Although I found this article interesting, I found it difficult to understand as I am not a big fan of politics.  I had to read it over a few times, and still I am left confused.

I also am not a huge fan of politics, therefore also found this article a bit hard to understand. However, I feel you did a good job summarizing it. As far as your question, I find that it is more important to have an open mind about difference in opinions. That being said, I find that it seems to be a requirement for politicians to stand for themselves and what they believe in, rather than having more of an open mind about difference in values and beliefs.

For someone stating to be confused, your summary of the main ideas in "I Agree With Me" seems to me to be on target. But i will agree this piece takes a few reads to follow. To me that is like having to ask a presenter to repeat themselves.

To your question: I believe it is possible to do both. We can all stand up for what we beleive in and open up our minds to different ideas. I think that is a mark of maturity that sorely lacking in many pundits and politicians.
