I think Margaret Atwood is acknowledging the differences in America, that have occoured over the last 50 years.

Good job on covering the "VAPID" points. I'm not marking for spelling in the blogs, but for your own reference, watch out for "i before e" mistakes (piece, beliefs) and a really common mistake "loose" for "lose." Remember "loose moose" and that might help you to remember the difference

I think you did a good job on explaining Margaret Atwood's thoughts. I liked the use of direct quotes to prove your point even more. I completely agree with all your points you have made about what Margaret is trying to get Americans to acknowledge by writing "Letter to America". I'm not sure exactly whether or not she had a friend in America, it could have been possible. Or maybe she just noticed the path that the Americans were heading on and felt that she needed to say something to get their attention.
