*nods* Not just them, but soooo many bands, like, for example, Switchblade Symphony. Great music, but they'd flunk badly in any creative writing class. Well, in any English class, period, most likely.
I'm not just talking about stuff that is inelegant or doesn't meet some artificial standard, or that doesn't match my stylistic expectations; I'm talking about lines that show an absolute failure to grasp even the most the basic principles of English grammar and word usage.
I like the Crushadows and Switchblade, but yeah... They really need to either hire out their lyric writing or take an English class or four.
Same with songs like Metallica's "For Whom the Bell Tolls." The refrain makes absolutely no sense in any form of English ever spoken at any point in history.

I think we need more goth music about bunnies, and lollipops, and rainbows ...
Honestly, if you had the same sound, I don't think most people would notice. I don't pay attention to lyrics a lot of the time. Most songs (particularly goth) I can't even pick them out anyway.
For me I think it's an artist by artist thing as to what I listen to or hear. I think my favorite lyricist, if I had to choose, is probably Paul Simon ... maybe we should just take his lyrics and set it to Cruxshadow music ...
