The second episode of the eighth season had a tough act to follow but I thought that it was a decent story that went back to another variation of the meteor freak plot. By the way, did they ever explain how Bette got her powers?
I liked when Tess said "The injustice of it all." Was it a vague reference to the future Injustice Gang from the animated Justice League? That would be awesome! Now I'm not an expert, I can't really remember who's supposed to be in the gang but I love little moments like this. My sister was like "Oh no! Here comes the Injustice League!" in sarcasm. Hee, I like her. While I liked Tess' last scene, I still think that the producers and even the actress are trying way too hard to be evil and sinister. I have no idea if Cassidy is actually a good actress because she has the same expression on her face for most of the time, trying to look mysterious...I think a little bit of variety would really help her performance. Although, I don't know if that's her fault or the directors/producers who want her to act a certain way.
Since when was Chloe a saint? She was never like that, she was nice until you had a story that she could uncover, and then the gloves were off. In regards to her relationship with Davis, it's better than Chimmy although I don't feel the hot chemistry yet. As for her love for Jimmy, Mack sells it in some scenes but then in others, she looks disappointed that Clark is letting her go instead of professing his love for her. Davis/Sam is not doing anything for me yet, I'm in the minority apparently. I thought his scene with Clark was cool though and the ending was a nice setup, although not neccessary yet. They're really rushing his relationship with Chloe and why is she spending time with another guy besides her fiancee, who she supposedly loves? Not that I mind Jimmy's lack of screentime, at least there's one benefit out of this new realtionship. Ouch, I'm mean.
I thought the actress playing Bette showed her obvious inexperience and youth. Consistency is something that good actors like Tom have and even he has an off day. The actress was okay in some scenes, like when she was afraid of Tess and drew back slightly. That was a good scene for Cassidy as well, she was creepy! Why is she always touching girls? Then in others she was overacting. Her voice was strange too, it would sound perfectly normal and then it would get all weezy. Bizarre and a bad decision on the director's part. I don't really pay attention to the directors on SV, I notice them more on Supernatural because Jared and Jensen sometimes speak about them. It did not help that she was under-written and poorly developed.
Clark: What? You think I'm hot?
I think everyone else has said it but Tom and Erica were great together. I liked how Clark was so quick with his quips and the last scene was sincere so it worked well for me. The affection from Lois is a bit rushed but they've always had this flirty relationship even if it is inconsistent; I can never forget thier last scene in Facade where they're having so much fun together. I never saw a brother-sister relationship since it was always sort of sexy from the beginning. This episode did a good job of briefly explaining Clark's own reasoning for taking the position at the Daily Planet, it also showed him being very proactive and going to help those people on the bus without really worrying about his identity for the moment. Overall, it was a decent episode but things need to slow down and be explained more.
