Not ignoring your recent posts but I've not been on LJ much and not much to suggest except offers of hugs and sympathy. And just one thought - are you already in touch with Jennifer and Reinier? I'm sure you are but just in case, I think you would find it helpful both practically and from J's point of view someone who has followed this same path already.
I'm coming to the view that something closer to Amsterdam might be better - M will be sub-contracted I think - and so it's probably best to be not so close to Alkmaar - but being close to Hilversum is less necessary.
Being close to a major city might have its benefits for me, since I might find it hard to be completely immersed in Dutch culture and miss home rather too much for comfort. If there is a place where even a day-old copy of the Telegraph could be purchased, that might make me feel a little less isolated.
Still looking for something that ticks the boxes for affordability, safety, space and location though...
Also, just in case y'all don't know about Woningnet, which used to list only social sector houses (council flats) but now lists freely available housing as well: http://www.woningnet.nl/. Most of its stock comes from building societies and is not too expensive, depending on where you're looking.
trying to navigate my way round this site is not easy - I find myself panicking because it's all in Dutch. Time to get the dictionary out and take a deep breath.
