Amber and I took a trip down to Lynchburg for a little mini vacation. A few vineyards, a waterfall, damn tasty breakfast, pictures, etc behind the cut.
We dropped by Rebec Vineyards, Rockbridge Vineyard, and DelFosse Vineyards and Winery. Each of the three had good and not-so-good wines to taste; we still managed to pick up around nine bottles. I don't have them here, so I can't name them specifically, but if anyone is interested I'll let you know what we got.
Upon arrival in Lynchburg, we went hunting for B&Bs, for with which to not sleep in the car. After some driving around and one redneck gas station Q&A session, we found
Ivy Creek Farm. Absolutely amazing... the room was great, comfy bed, pool, friendly and fluffy dog, very nice proprietors (who knew the best places to eat in the area), and breakfast. Holy crap, the breakfast.
First course was mini muffins (cinnamon raisin with apples, I think) and baked grapefruit. Second course was poached egg in brioche over prosciutto, with savory potato slices and applewood smoked bacon. Third course was a cold strawberry soup.
It would be worth going back for the breakfast alone.
There were a number of abandoned buildings in Lynchburg proper that I wanted to check out, but we simply didn't have the time to really explore; I intend to make another trip down, hit a few more vineyards, and visit some more graveyards and buildings.
We did manage to hit the Old City Cemetery.
We also drove a bit of the Blue Ridge Parkway and stopped off at
Crabtree Falls for a bit of a hike. We didn't make it until mid afternoon, and I'm guessing it would have been much prettier in the morning, but it was still fantastic.
