A few years ago, the gov. of my province started showing theses awareness advertisements for road safety. What set them apart from previous awareness campaigns was the shock value of these TV ads; They showed car crashes (with graphic injuries showed in slow motion) to try and shock people in the hopes that perhaps the message would be taken more ( Read more... )

Yeah, pretty much. I don't know if you guys get these channels from QC but if you do watch out after 10pm they show the complete ad (There's a "toned-down" version where they only show the hands being pushed back once and cut to the 'denounce sexual abuse slogan" I had seen that one before, so I didn't suspect a thing when I saw the full thing last night.

I fucking cried.

If I were you, I would write to the channel or the broadcasting company and say that you had a friend over who saw the commercial and broke down due to remembering their past abuse. That is just going too far.

Yes, I'm actually trying to find the right place to voice my complaint; I went to the gov's campaing website to see if there was a feedback option (there was none) so I might go directly to the advertising company that produced the ad (and copy paste the whole thing in emails to the TV stations that broadcast it)

I think the people they are trying to reach will blow it off while the people who have been hurt will be reminded of their ordeal. This I think was poorly thought out. :/

I agree with the comments here. People who are callous to it won't be swayed either way, and the damage it causes is far worse than any good it does. Sure, shock gets attention, but this goes too far. Awareness is important, but not at the cost of the people it's trying to help.

I hope you find a good place to send your complaint so that it's heard clearly. It sounds like there are many more who are voicing their opinions.
