Quantum of Satisfaction

Gah...

Whoever edited "Quantum of Solace" needs to be put through the wringer...  absolutely terrible. The camerawork wasn't great, either.  If you're gonna show me a car chase/roof chase/fistfight, at least let me see the frakking action, huh? Daniel Craig thankfully still seems up to snuff. Here's hoping the next director chosen takes their cues ( Read more... )

Yes, I liked the Bourne movies. At least with them I could figure out the majority of what was going on.

It's just that the one thing that's always bugged me about the Bourne movies is the shaky-camera-so-close-to-the-action-you-can't-see-it style of directing. It did not bother me anywhere near as much in Quantum of Solace. In fact I remember distinctly thinking, "Cool, a knife fight I can actually see!" The only directing thing that bothered me was how they framed several shots so that when Bond drove up in his new Ford POS, the logo would be dead center of the screen for five seconds. Lame!

I will admit the story in QoS is pretty incoherent. It seemed more like a collection of scenes rather than a real movie, and it didn't resolve itself at the end. That's where I was disappointed.

Actually, as I can recall I think it was only one of the Bourne films that had the shaky problem such that it bothered me. The others I seem to recall being able to well enough pick up what was going on (I recall the pen fight and magazine fight being pretty vicious but easy enough to watch)

The short Quantum knife-fight was ok, as was the ax-fight (though the entire hotel blowing up was a bit gratuitous - I'd hoped they'd gotten past doing doing stuff like that).

But the opening car chase, the Italy chase sequence, and half the boat chase were near-impossible to see what was going on. Compared to Casino Royale's spectacular parkour and the airport sequences, I know they can do better.
