Cupid, Mastering Skill Challenges, and "Druids are F@#&ing Dicks!"

So a fairly eventful weekend, which was a nice change of pace from a pretty long, tedious, work week (and it was only four days long!). That said, the previous weekend was also busy but great, with a trip to the fantastic Getty Villa museum in Malibu for Valentine's (which is where the Getty keeps its Greek, Etruscian, and Roman artifacts). I've ( Read more... )

I just wanted to say that I think the last SW session was one of the best use of a Skill Challenge-type mechanic I've seen (actually the first challenge, where we were tracking down the lightsaber, worked out really nicely as well). I think that's exactly the way they should work--a great way of adding some numbers and randomness to a wrinkle-able scene, or adding a framework for a complex encounter (like the pod-racing example in the book). Good job :)

I'm actually glad something came up for Devin so that I didn't have to miss the next session... too many ideas on what to do ;p

It gives the game a bit more of a free flow effect without bogging the game down with hoards of rules and too much rolling. Encouraging creative thinking and roleplaying which is always a benefit in my opinion.

Glad you enjoyed them - that means a lot to me :)

I'm enjoying them more and more as a way of getting through scenes that should have that randomness or framework to them, yet shouldn't involve a boatload of dice rolling to accomplish - essentially it's accomplishing the very things I kept trying to do in 3.5 that needed a ton of rolls to get through. Plus it's nice seeing everyone get a little more into things - hell, we split the party three ways during last session, and yet it didn't feel like it bogged down, which was really nice. I expect to start using them a lot more, so everyone should get a good chance to make use of their skills. Thanks again for doing all the math!

Glad you'll be able to make the next session, too. I think we're entering into the more "interesting" part of the module and would hate to see you miss out. :)
