Since labor unions are the hot topic in the news, I found it fitting to bring up that today is the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire.
I am somewhat embarrassed to admit that, before news blurbs about this anniversary started appearing on my FB feed this week, my primary source of information on this event was a terrible historical romance novel (the non-bodice-ripping kind) that I read in 7th grade.
Thanks for posting this. I don't know that I ever knew much about this. So while having an impromptu dinner with my neighbor Barbara, I was able to hold my own in the conversation (thanks to your post) when she brought it up.
Corporate America did not learn to care for the safety of it's workers...They were made to care by the power of the many voices who came together as union members...
