"Make security companies pay for 911: Honestly the police have much more important things to do with their time than answer automated alarm systems. Various alarm system companies make tons of money off of our fear and sense of insecurity and they drop the bill on the taxpayers and the work of this on the police. Most studies indicate that somewhere in the neighborhood of 98% of these alarms are false."
As an employee of a company that provides alarm systems for businesses and residences, I wholeheartedly concur. It seems that's all we do: dispatch police and then call back when the dumbasses call us saying: Oh! I didn't realize it was still on. Can you cancel the police? There are some states that charge after 3 false alarms, but I agree that it shouldn't have to become a police thing when people are irresponsible with something they paid for to ease their fears. And then get MAD that we called police! What? Do you want us to ignore it? Why even pay for the freakin' service?! Gahhh! Sorry. Hit close to home.
