Learning is sometimes the surd of conflict or of the byproduct of some pause in inchoate ignorance. One would expect a Math conference to be full of individuals searching for truth or in some "discovery" of a better world. Well, I wish I had someone like you as my math teacher at Chapel Hill thorny_rose April 17 2010, 21:31:26 UTC
Then, cuz it's the main reason I'm not in med school right now. Until then, I had always performed average in math and I did great in HS chem. Then Chemistry struck a deal with Numbers in Chem 101 and that was the end of me. I didn't seek out help often enough because it seemed beyond me and I didn't get why I needed or maybe didn't need it but had to have it. To this day, I sometimes lament not getting as much help as I could and seeking out as many means of understanding as possible. I'm lucky if I can add in my head now, but I try to encourage my nieces to continue gaining a foothold in math. I love my liberal arts/social science brain, but I've got enough sense to know I need someone with a strong numerical background to balance the equation. :p

Best math teacher I had was also a wrestling coach.

He found our excuses, took them away from us, and made us set goals.

Then he worked with us to reach the goals.

I passed with a B.

From 1995 - 2009, it was the highest grade I had ever received in a math class.
