I liked it, I'll probably get I'm getting the blu ray.  However, I'm a casual fan of the franchise at best, and I've only seen a handful of episodes of the original series, so your mileage may very.  But as a mainstream friendly, summer blockbuster sci fi picture it's pretty damn spiffy.  I wish the Star Wars prequels had left me half as ( Read more... )

Oddly enough, the more I think about it, the more I seem to like it. :) Usually it's the other way around, where I love a movie when I see it and then start to notice all the flaws after the excitement wears off. Honestly, at this point I have a few very minor complaints, and it's still nothing that takes away from how good the rest of the movie is.

If I had to compare it to anything, I'd say it reminds me a lot of the more adventure friendly sci fi movies, like Serenity or Star Wars: A New Hope. Maybe with just a tiny bit of Galaxy Quest thrown in. :P

Normally I don't pay to see the same movie twice, but in this case I probably would be willing to make an exception. :)

As far as the Trek movies go, I've only seen Wrath of Khan, Generations, and First Contact, but I enjoyed this one far more than any of those.

The Return of the King is the only movie I've ever paid for twice, but I did see The Dark Knight and Watchmen twice with free passes. :)

No, I don't know much about the original series other than common knowledge type stuff, so I've never really felt a need to see most of the movies with that cast. I only saw Wrath of Khan because it was supposed to be "the best." And I skipped Insurrection and Nemesis because I heard they both sucked.
