May Your Days Be Merry and Bright

My conference finished up today, at least the main part of it. I have a meeting to go to tomorrow morning that will last a couple of hours, and that's it. After that I'm done and have the rest of my Saturday in Vancouver to myself. I will probably do some shopping, though the downtown might be a bit of a shitshow tomorrow as there is some kind of ( Read more... )

i know how stressful unexpected Humans Doing Things That Interrupt My Zen can be - and I've been guilty of taking my displeasure out on the mister then beating myself up with guilt and apologizing. You'd think by now I'd have learned how to just deal with shit. lol :( Still, SO BLEEPING ANNOYING about delivery people just randomly making up times to show up.

But your 1000% correct (I'm really not bad at math) that the operative word in your capitalized handle is zen. It's not worth getting pissed off at and yet it's hard not to. I try to tell myself "there's nothing you can do about it now, so just let it go" but 5 seconds later it's back bouncing off the walls inside my head like a racquetball.

You're welcome.

As for the hot tub, it's such a first world problem, I need to learn to let it go and deal with it when I get back (in 6 days!)

That is great fun about the impromptu concert. When I was a preteen my dad and I went to San Francisco with my dad on a business trip (not sure where my older sisters were). We stayed at the Fairmont and one afternoon the doors were the piano bar were open so I sat down and started noodling. I was quickly but kindly told that the guy they paid to play in there at night was pretty particular about the instrument, but they set up a concert grand in an underused conference room and told me it was mine to enjoy for the duration of my stay. I didn't get anybody to sing with me, though!

Regarding the hot tub delivery, that kind of clueless disregard seems endemic to people in the service industry. For all he knew, your only car was in that garage and whomever was in the house could be trapped there. My handyman operates on his own schedule and seems to have little concern for what impact his showing up (or not showing up, which is more common) has on us. After not hearing from him for over a month he announced that I needed to make space for his tools in the garage, which is a reasonable enough request, but the delivery... without any mention of his disappearance... didn't sit well with me.

Yeah, they know that their services are in demand and their competition is limited. Still, once the hot tub is in, I plan to go see his competitor and do some price comparison.

So...is he planning to come back to move the hot tub into position once you're ready for it??

Yes, he said to call him when I get back and we'll figure it out. And I know he will because for far I've only paid him for 50% of the hot tub and I'm in no hurry to give him the other 50%.
