“Oh, its so cold outside!”
“But won't it be fun Big Sister?” Anju stared at Karin while she huffed about the weather. “We haven't done this in years.”
Karin took a deep breath. “I know Anju, I know, but did we have to wait until nightfall to play in the snow?” Her whining increased. “Its too cold at night!” After her tantrum she looked back at her little sister, who had not said anything else. Anju was too busy lamenting the fact that she could no longer venture outside during the daytime, as the sun had finally become a problem for her. “Oh Anju! I'm so sorry, its hard for me to remember sometimes that you're a full vampire now!” Karin inched over to her sister to give her a hug. “Forgive me?”
Big Sister.
Anju embraced her sister as they hugged. “Ok Big Sister, but on one condition.” Karin smiled.
“You name it!” Her smile quickly turned upside down, then expanded into her whole mouth opening wide. Anju had grabbed Karin and ran her out into the cold as fast as any new vampire could.
Snow covered everything outside. The mansion, the ground, the entire hill on which Karin walks her way down towards school, everything was pure white. It took her a moment to realize that she had been put behind a snow wall. “Anju? What's going on?” She started shaking even though her entire un-vampiric body had been fully clothed from head to toe.
Anju was standing a few feet away from her behind her own snow wall. “This is my condition”, she shouted. “On my mark!” Karin went wide-eyed. “Get set!” She started scooping up as much snow as possible. “Start!”
Snowballs flew past her hair like bullets chasing after Superman. “NO FAIR”, she cried. With Anju's newfound vampire skills and reflexes, she was basically a demon. Karin ducked behind the wall with her head against it. The thumps from the other side kept getting louder as Anju increased her throwing.
Oh? What do I do? She stopped moving around to try and think of a new battle plan. Unfortunately for Karin, she wasn't much of a strategist and gave up almost instantly. There's got to be a way to beat Anju at her own game!
“Huh?” The thumping stopped.
“Big Sister! Are you okay?” There was a hint of worry in her sister's voice. Karin smiled an evil smile.
“No Anju! I think you got me real bad! I'm aching all over! Come help me up!” Instantaneously the littlest daughter of the Maka family appeared before the eldest daughter. “Sucker!” Karin kicked snow at Anju's feet and picked up as many snowballs as she could and threw them all at her gray-haired visage. It seemed like it was a surefire win until she noticed Anju no longer standing where she had just been.
Uh oh. Karin turned around slowly to see Anju back at the other wall with what appeared to be a snowball the size of...a snowman? When did she build that? Just now?
“Big Sister”, it wasn't shouted, but it was audible, as if she were standing right next to her. “Didn't someone ever tell you rules for any game?” Karin gulped. “Cheating is not allowed.” Before the last word could roll off her tongue she threw the giant snowman ball. The last thing she remembered was a big white ball flying towards her face with a smiley face on top with what appeared to be a tongue sticking out before she blacked out.
Hours later Karin awoke from her little sister shaking her. She had hints of tears underneath her eyelids.
“Glad to see you are awake and ok Big Sister.” Karin got up from the couch she was lying on.
“Its ok! At least we had fun, right?” She smiled the goofy smile everyone seems to see. Anju nodded in agreement. “Hey, if it snows tomorrow, want to play again?”
“Oh Big Sister, you know you'd lose!” Both vampire sisters laughed the night away.
