Recent viewing included two documentaries, The Central Park Five and Èvocateur: The Morton Downey Jr. Movie, along with a famous episode of Hill Street Blues, "Trial By Fury." They reminded me of the angry politics of the 1980s, which in the Northeast was obsessed with crime, drugs and urban decay ( Read more... )

Probably worth adding to the discussion is affirmative action -- but unlike the crime wave, it's still very much an animating force on the right today (although one could make an argument that the force behind it is lessened since the Jesse Helms "angry hands" and Lani Guinier "quota queen" days).
