BSG finale redux...

Liked it even better the second time. The end result made the survivors' dogged persistence in the face of four years of soul-numbing despair worth it, and the spirituality that threaded through the whole episode just added a depth that had been teased for the past couple seasons without really being brought to fruition until tonight. I will admit to also being agreeably satisfied with it overall. The ending that each character was given was perfect for them, and I was ultimately just left feeling sorry for Lee. I do wish we'd seen more though. For example, I love Doc Cottle. I wanted to see his ending. I was also annoyed that they didn't do more with the fate of the cylons on Earth. They largely just disappeared.

I was happy that we finally got another space battle; though, it seemed very hasty, and the end was a lil silly (e.g. Caval shooting himself).

Ever since the start of season three, I've felt the series has done a lot of meandering to get to its end. The final episode seemed to find that balance again.

I kinda hope that maybe they made an editor's cut to flesh out that last 45 minutes or so to address the fate of the Cylons and some of the minor characters, but overall I'm happy with what was in the ending they showed. They had to balance wrapping up all those different plot strings with not dragging it out until the overall emotional impact gets diluted.

As far as Cavil, I read somewhere that that was Dean Stockwell's idea. He thought that the character would have preferred to eat his own gun once he realized that he'd lost and was about to get killed or captured by beings he felt nothing but contempt for. Seemed to me like he didn't want something external to become the arbiter of his fate.
