Liked it even better the second time. The end result made the survivors' dogged persistence in the face of four years of soul-numbing despair worth it, and the spirituality that threaded through the whole episode just added a depth that had been teased for the past couple seasons without really being brought to fruition until tonight. I was happy that we finally got another space battle; though, it seemed very hasty, and the end was a lil silly (e.g. Caval shooting himself).
Ever since the start of season three, I've felt the series has done a lot of meandering to get to its end. The final episode seemed to find that balance again.

As far as Cavil, I read somewhere that that was Dean Stockwell's idea. He thought that the character would have preferred to eat his own gun once he realized that he'd lost and was about to get killed or captured by beings he felt nothing but contempt for. Seemed to me like he didn't want something external to become the arbiter of his fate.
