Why Obama won a second term...

People are comfortable with the familiar and those that voted for him are comfortable with him as President. Am I comfortable with him, no. Never have been. In fact the last four years have been unconvincing to me that he deserves reelection, but I'm just one vote out of millions that were cast this evening ( Read more... )

I'd note that there is a flaw in this general thought-line, and it's looming in "the incentives to succeed are now perverted and until people understand the importance of how economics works, it will only get worse. For one, there is a marked divide between human motivation and money (or much else in economics for that matter). People who seek success rarely do so for money, financial gain, or even career prestige alone. Therein, arguing success = small businesses = fiscal policy is probably a bit off, too. More glaring is the idea that anyone at all has a good understanding of modern economics. Suggesting that it's possible to "understand how economics works" is implying that we have a single, scientifically sound, empirically based, factually sourced concept and theory of good economics. Reality is that economics is much like anything else in social sciences. You have a myriad of theories each with attendant evidence such that each theory has certain elements that seem correct and logical but others that miss the mark ( ... )

This post was more about my own frustrations coming to light. As much as I would have hated a Romney presidency, I used this post to vent my own frustrations over my own self reliance and feeling of helplessness. In fact, I'm deeply disturbed by my reliance on excessive student credit and food stamps to function. Because of this school for me has soured and I haven't been attending class consistently. I'm a person who feels most comfortable with positive reinforcement and without it my self-discipline becomes almost nonexistent.

The sense of defeat I get is why I described it as lazy. There's no incentive to take positive steps unless I'm forced to and I've found it easy to wallow in the trap where I just take what I get and use that to just get by. Everybody has their own personal standards but for me I see mine go to waste when I find that I've had earned less and less money for the last 5 years.

What you're expressing, then, is some sort of self-problem that cannot be globally generalized to society ( ... )

but my guess is that it rests on the battle over entitlements
I disagree. I think it's possible you're not understanding many of the larger points. Constant flip-flop of Romney being only one - realizing the guy will say anything tailored to whatever audience is at hand. Let the auto industry go bankrupt is what Romney would have done. Obama didn't do that and we know now that much of that money has been paid back by said industry which is again thriving, saving thousands of jobs. I could care less about so-called entitlements, and I'd suspect most who voted for him feel the same way.

This post wasn't thought out at all and most in response to my bad mood.
