Fascinating use of the prompt words. I cannot decide if it had a happy ending or not. Perhaps, like most of your stories, because it was too realistic to have a label like good ending or bad ending. I know I would love to know the characters better.

It was tough to fit all the words in. I was stuck on "mascara"! :) But I think they all fit without being too obvious. This is one series that I am glad to have John writing for me, I can tell you that. :)

I hope that's not a tired trope! I think there is probably a lot of story here but I am notoriously uninterested in sticking with anything that might be practical, like a novel. I don't know why I can't be a more disciplined writer! But I seem to like all these little unrelated character sketches instead. Bah! Maybe I'll just collect so many short stories that it'll end up being book length some day.
