Title: Midnight Train to Georgia Author: keppiehed Word Count: 835 Prompt: “shade” A/N: Written for week #1 at brigits_flame. All of "Grandma"'s dialogue are song lyrics from Gladys Knight's Midnight Train to Georgia.
Oow. That was lovely and sad and true and right and atmospheric and so sad. But was grandma really sad - I don't think so... she was still singing to Dad, long gone and waiting.
Aw, you are always so kind to me. I hope the grandma wasn't too sad. I don't know anyone like this, but my heart really wrenches for people as they grow older. It's a subject that has always been dear to my heart for some reason, so I feel driven to write about it. Thank you for reading!
Beautiful work... and probably close to home for too many of us, although my grandmother was lucid right till the end, even if she was in bad shape. But that song... oh, my. Of all the songs. I can so clearly hear her singing it to her husband a long time ago...
I'm sorry that your grandma was in a bad way at the end. :( But I am glad that she was lucid and knew you. It is heartbreaking to go through Alzheimer's or something of that nature. And I'm glad you approve of the song choice. I'm not sure why I decided on that--it just seemed especially evocative to me. And thank you so much for reading. You are always so supportive and I really appreciate it!
I have to say I'm not at all familiar with that song, so thanks for the heads up in the beginning.
There is something to say about being intuitive and connecting the dots. Even when something doesn't seem to make any sense on the surface, just underneath a few layers you can find what it means.
