Remember how I said I didn't know if I'd be spending the summer here or in Houston? Doubtless everyone thought that if I didn't have an internship by June, I wouldn't be getting one

It's not Acanthusing if you had to contact them more than once. I once spoke to a friend of my father's about the nature of internships, and he said he never even bothered looking at interns' first emails because he hated interns and figured if they really wanted it (and thus would put more effort into the internship if they got it), they'd email again. So this was just you having an awesome resume and being persistant.
It's also nice to see someone else land a job doing something they like over the summer with actual names in their field of choice (um, besides you and me, the only person I can think of who might have gotten a somewhat fitting-as-opposed-to-perfunctory internship is Ilana, and I haven't heard much about hers). Hope it's as interesting as it sounds.
OMIGOD YOU MET BOB BAKKER YOU LUCKY LITTLE BASTARD YOU!
...sorry. I am, in fact, a Bob Bakker fanboy. It's a result of figuring out at a very young age that dinosaurs were the closest thing I was ever gonna find to dragons. He was my idol, for a long long time.
Just to make you hate me more, I didn't just meet him, I spent hours across the table from him as he and his volunteers cleaned off a nearly complete duckbill skeleton. Also I traded quips with him and proved that I knew just as much about movies and music as he did, but not as much about languages.
I met him once, at a museum in Wyoming. I was much younger at the time, though. Didn't talk long, just told him that I loved his book and that he was the bestest paleontologist ever and that it was so awesome that dinosaurs might have been warm-blooded.
I don't hate you, but I must admit to a degree of jealousy. You just hung out with Bob Bakker as he cleaned off a duckbill skeleton (What kind of duckbill?!), thus living out one of MY childhood dreams.
