For those of you on my FL who had to deal with this... Did your sugars go down right away after your baby was born? I don't think mine have been too high and I haven't been watching my diet too closely. I am just curious about what I should look for if I am still testing every once in a while... What is too high? Should I still test 2 hours after I

baby #2

I haven't had to deal with it, but just from knowing what numbers should be I'd say if you test first thing in the morning (i.e. "fasting") and your numbers are less than 100, you are ok.

I'm sure being type II and having GD is different but after I had C my insulin (only on when i was pg) was cut in half and I had lows.. they had to cut it back even more and I went off very quickly. So in my experience it goes down rather immediately. I got lows while breastfeeding for a while too.

If you're having high BS you might get a headache or feel lazy and crummy or tired.

Mine were just fine after delivery. If your's were fine, you don't need to test, even "every once in a while." And, if it hasn't been brought up, you should talk to your OB about doing another GTT at 6 weeks. If those results are good, you're good.

So, basically, except for 6 weeks PP, I haven't tested since.

I never tested after I had Landen. Oops, what I supposed to? My GD nurse said that I need to have my sugars checked once a year, via blood test at the lab when they to my cholestrol. I guess I could test at home but I never rememeber. Hmmm....

How are things going with the babe!?

My m/w yelled at me for checking my sugars after Eden was born. She said your body is so out of whack from birth that you won't get accurate reads. After Abigail, I never tested again. This time, I was sent back for a 2 hour test - I got the order for it at my 6 week appointment, and am just now taking it (at 10+ weeks PP). I was not on inuslin with Abigail, so I'm wondering if that's why there was no follow up post-partum? But even my diabetes doc thsi time said that once you give birth, (like, as soon as you give birth) the diabetes is gone in most cases. I would say to stop testing, unless your doc has given you instructions to do so. Ask about it at your 6 week, but don't worry about it otherwise.
