Computer Issues

Folks, if I disappear on you, it's not conscious unless I say 'good bye' . . . my wireless network woke up this morning with me and decided to be autistic. I can't seem to get it to work reliably on more than one computer; as soon as the Mac Mini connects, the PC can't talk anymore. Though it will tell me it is connected and listening at "Excellent ( Read more... )

Edit @ 1:45pm - Errors continue to pop up with the wireless network, ONLY my wireless network. The expected answer to the problem from my father has been given:

"So, wireless network huh? Guess it isn't as good as you thought it was. *chuckle*"

If I didn't KNOW the AirPort router was buttoned down, I'd think he fucked with the settings. Although a more elegant and simpler solution is to mess with the router one step higher through which my AirPort is connected. I will note the ONLY fix which has worked has been to power cycle the router entirely, an option I will not have available after he gets home.

Have you power cycled the AirPort? I have a Linksys that goes bad sometimes and the only thing that works is to pull the plug.

This is the standard third step:

- Check settings.
- Reset/restart the computer.
- Power off the Router.

I've also:

- Investigated the wired network computers to ensure they're connecting properly. Sluggishly, but properly (I was getting numbers analogous with 56K dialup out of a cable modem; and effectively only "receiving" 1 packet for every 15 sent).
- Power-cycled the router one step higher.
- Power-cycled the actual cable modem.
- Directly plugged the incoming modem data to the Airport (that got a different error; my network here issues IPs to each unit and if for whatever reason it should change, the connections fail).

The Airport is, apparently, just sometimes stopping. It's 3:15pm right now, in about 30min it's another 2hr window. I'm going to see if it does the same thing again at the 2hr mark . . .

I had this problem with my router:

1) it was overheating since it was being used constantly

and later

2) the DLS line was deteriorating, but that was an entirely different problem I had with verizon and their world of suckage
