cassandra

watch
with bittersweet resignation
the way he holds her
gentle safe
twining unhurried in the
sensual dance
of emotion and connection
envy
sliding through veins
like cold
viscous syrup
slowing the heart
it will never be like that
rough
violent
battle and dominance
longing for
sweet nothings
whispered across silent
morning air
but never staying the night
too much shame in
waking
to chaos and uncertainty
better to slip away
into shadows
loneliness
and guilt
to cry alone
for innocence
lost

This poem is very close to the heart of my life right now. cassandra embodies the frustrations I currently feel. The title is an allusion to Cassandra of Greek myth. I really don't have anything else to say for once.
