OMG, Sam was a SAINT!!! In his place I would have taken Mona out on the porch and kicked her ass. I would have happily held her arms behind her back for Sam!
It was ridiculous how much I identified with the boy in this story--I had to laugh at spots because my beloved was pretty much as clueless as Dean was about Mona when it came to being admired, so kinda been there, hah! And I felt bad for Sam, but not too terribly bad because he did step up for himself. I'm really glad that on the whole, he took the high road and was the better person. I admire that. ;)
I was just going to peek in at this story but it utterly sucked me in--thanks so much for sharing this, it's a great sequel to your big bang!
hahah, yeah, my little lizard brain really went all out in making Mona a bad guy--though I wanted her to be relatable too. actually, in the first draft, she was a lot worse than in what finally got posted ;) and yeah, sam put up with it, but he sure gave it back in surliness and snappish comments, ha!
thanks for reading and taking the time to comment! it's always nice to hear that my fics sucked people in :D
Oh, so fabulous! It's funny, because Sam really is rather prickly, and sometimes Dean can be a real prick, but they're really right together. I was FURIOUS with Mona, and then I wanted to shake Dean for not seeing it. Terrific story :-)
Possibly my favorite thing (though really, it had a lot to contend with as the whole thing was my favorite thing) about the original was Sam staying true to his character throughout the entirety, beginning to end, he was - as Dean said, I believe - the least maternal fertile ever. It was gorgeous, and somehow adorable in a twisted way and accurate. I do love that the pregnancy wasn't exactly treated as the most glorious thing to ever happen in the entire universe.
And you stayed so so true to that vibe in this. Sam never once struck me as some coddling, doting mother hen type. And I clutched onto that. You write grumpy!regularguy!Sam who just happens to be knocked up with his brother's kids so beautifully.
Just, yes. Thank you. For that. For this. For zombie fic and its perfect counterpart aftermath. ♥ ♥
thank you so much. really, you gave me the best comment i could hope for - telling me i stayed true to sam's character. i've said it in a million replies, but as a reader, i can't stand it when the boys are feminized or use overly-romantic mush to justify what they're saying--that doesn't strike true to the show for me. and honestly, i couldn't make Sam into a maternal fertile if i tried. in my mind he's too headstrong, and ultimately too male, to be anything but a father who happens to carry children.
thank you for your absolutely wonderful comment. it will buoy my spirits all night :)
