I have never wanted to be the type of mother who wraps her children in cotton wool. Let them take the risk, learn the lesson... that's my philosophy. As it turns out, sometimes they'll take the risk and I'll learn a lesson too.
He came down with a headache, fever and fatigue yesterday and I had a brief panic about concussion, but my husband's got the same thing today, so that's just a coincidence. At least he's still really keen on riding his bike--probably more so than I am!
*giggles* I'm sorry, but this post was sweet enough to warrant a giggle.
Olli was playing with her friends a couple of months ago and they have a trampoline (with net around the outside) in their backyard. Well, Olli was being a dork and climbing around the outside and one of her friends pushed her off. Her arm ached, off and on, for the next few days, and she had a couple of new chips in one of her front teeth (which DIDN'T bother her, so I wasn't worried about it). That was kind of scary, though I wasn't there to witness the incident. She got over it quickly enough.
I think our most terrifying moments have been her falling down the stairs, even though she's never actually injured herself doing it...
I'm just so relieved I'd insisted on the helmet. I *had* considered not bothering with it, since I figured he couldn't go that fast. But I've been trying to instil the helmet-wearing habit and that was definitely the right decision. Added bonus... now he's conscientious about wearing his helmet too!
