It's that time of year again.

What I've Learned:

So, I'm taking part of this from my last xanga entry, and I guess it's somewhat of a continuation as I pursue my summary of high school and senior year.

I've learned some really tough lessons this year about trust, and faith, and love. I've had more friendships tried in this single year alone than I have in the entire duration of my life. Some of them made it, and some didn't. I learned that even your closest friends will disappoint you. I learned that if you pretend not to care, people will believe you. And...if you let them believe you, you will find yourself completely destroyed. I learned that no matter who your friends are, no matter how much you love them and how much they love you, no matter how commendable they are as people, no matter what you do for them, there is nobody that you can truly count on besides yourself. I learned the feeling of betrayal. I learned the feeling of wanting something more desperately than you've wanted anything in your life, and learning that you do not have the means to obtain it. I learned the feeling of learning that you DO have the means to obtain it, but that the real reason you can't is simply that somebody wants to fuck you over. Paint me bitter. I learned that I can't have what others have, and I never will. I learned that some streets are one-way, and they are discarded because they are unhealthy. I learned that there is deceit everywhere. Everywhere. I learned that people will lie to you. Deception knows no boundaries, even in your own blood. I learned that I trust people too easily, and I'm going to stop.

I also learned that appearances can be deceiving, and that there is inevitably more than meets your naked eye. I learned to find more in people, to see more than the surface. I learned to seek what is real in a person and in friendship. I learned that if I work hard enough, things are not quite as impossible as they seem. I learned to take what comes, and make the most of it.

No joke, high school has been very educational.

What They Said:

Most memorable quotes, mostly from this year because that was when I started writing them down:

"Straight from the land of du-uh." -Takacs

River: You boneheads!
    Julian: Was that really necessary?

(Bell rings)
River: (walks in to see entire class still seated, eyes glued to the screen) What are you guys still doing in here?!

Marika: That's a nice blue pen.
Brady: Yeah, I stole it from Mrs. Howell.

Brady: Oh my God! Shut up, shut up!

Brady: Got off on a tangent there...now I'm getting off on a secant!

Brady: ...and x goes here...
    Marika: Why?
    Brady: No, x.

Rojas: (mutters something that sounds remarkably like "beanus.")
    Class: What?!
Rojas: (looks up) HEINOUS. I said HEINOUS!

Danielle: (yawns)
Brady: There is no time for yawning.
    Marika: That's not a yawn, it's a calculus call.

"The first thing I learned as a teacher was to steal." -Brady

Rojas: (stares sadly) Who wants to come up and shank me so I don't have to do this test?

"He looks like a wolfman!"
Brady: "I do NOT look like a wolfman!"

The rest I had to dig for, but 'twas worth it:

Bylo: Who freed France?
    Rahul: Hitler!
    Bylo: NO!!

"I've had enough of math!"       -Takacs

"You could always do a stupid sketch--I mean, a simple sketch--"       -Takacs

Sol: She asked out Mr. Lindsay-- but don't tell anybody.
Buell: Don't tell anybody? You just told the whole class.
Anna: Wait, isn't Mr. Lindsay married?
Craig: NO, he's a child molester!

During a brief period allotted to ask Rojas questions at the end of the year:
Someone: Did you ever have to wear a dress?
    Rojas: Yes.
    Me: Did you enjoy it?
Rojas: Uh-- (pauses. Whole class freezes and starts laughing.)

Coach: Questions?
    Phuong: ::BURP::

Who We Smiled For:

To sum up the past four years, briefly:

I'm kidding. (That's Jenn, by the way.)

What we learned in school:

I spent a while trying to figure out the best way to organize this. ...Well, I tried.

JCA:

BADMINTON:
04 MD Dexter. JV 1/2. Didn't finish season.
05 MD David. "V4"/JV1. GS. JV...4? 5? 6?
06 GD Jen Lu. V2. 11 W, 3 L v. MSJ, JLHS, JLHS.
07 MD Dexter. V2. 13 W, 1 L v. MSJ.
A loss is a loss is a loss, no matter how many sets we went into. But so is a win. =]
Coach White once said to me, "Fear fades, but glory lasts forever."

Sophomore year: I remember sitting in the bathroom, frantically stitching the letters on Serena's pillowcase, and taking it back from her after they were given out because I wasn't done.

Junior year was much more stressful, but the point is that they were all finished. I recall sitting in Anatomy after STARtesting because we had free time, working on Jen's, hoping that I woudln't bleed onto her pillow. And last game day: whipped cream? =] So worth it.
Oh, and then senior year...this is exactly what it looks like:

I'll definitely miss badminton.

And then there's...the rest of it. A hundred moments for a hundred lifetimes, and then some.
