Mad Men grew on me, too. Initially, I came into it in the middle of S1 and I watched a few eps. Then I felt compelled -- while not liking the show yet -- to watch all the episodes of S1, so I did On Demand. And then I was totally in love with the show.

Joan becomes more of a central character in later seasons. At least a bit more central than she is in S1. She has some poignant moments.

Mad Men is lush, beautifully designed soap opera. As such, I love it. I don't like the way it's held up as some deep social history so much.

I think I'm going to check out Modern Family next. I need a new show when I run out of Ed. Did you ever watch that? It's really old, we're watching it on a ripped from VHS copy!

The Tom Cavanaugh Ed? I watched it occasionally when it was on but never consistently enough to stick. Worth looking for?

I'm really enjoying it. It's pretty cosy but the acting is mostly really good and it has a nice line in banter / surreal humour. It also has Julie Bowen in it who is in Modern Family now. I liked her in Boston Legal so that was one of the reasons I started watching. I really like Tom Cavanagh, he's got a bit of an edge that stops Ed from being too good to be true. The guy who plays his best friend is great too.

It's really hard to find, it's not on DVD, so if you want to get hold of it I can email the details.

That's crazy it's not on DVD yet. Yeah, shoot me an email please.

Interested to hear what you think of Modern Family. It's a solid show and has a nice mixture of humor and (light) drama. I wouldn't pay legit prices for a season but am looking forward to seeing more of it.

Modern Family is a pretty solid show. The second season has gotten a bit of criticism for not being as sharp as the first season and while some of the episodes don't really offer anything new, I think it's been pretty consistent overall which I credit more to the actors than the writing perhaps. I've gotten a few solid laughs out of every episode at least. $1.25 a season! That's lovely!

Sounds like it's still worth watching if it's maintained consistency, even if not as fresh.
